Answering questions from users shortly after the introduction of the OnePlus 11R sub-flagship, the company said that the smartphone will receive four years of Android updates and five years of security support. How writer portal Android Authority, it soon became clear that this was not true.
OnePlus Support on Twitter stated that it was a bug and that the OnePlus 11R will only receive three years of operating system updates and four years of security support. A spokesperson for the brand apologized for the misunderstanding and stated that the expanded support is only for “specific devices” like the OnePlus 11.
The flagship OnePlus 11 was the first device from the company to receive four years of Android updates and five years of security support. Given that the novelty runs Android 13, it could be updated to Android 17 in the future, but it seems the more budget OnePlus 11R model will only be updated to Android 16.
