Combating the efforts of all parties, using the latest technologies and improving legislation is necessary to effectively combat phone fraud. This was expressed by Stanislav Kuznetsov, Deputy Chairman of the Board of Sberbank, in the panel discussion on “Fraud Prevention and Social Engineering” at the “Cybersecurity in Finance” forum, which is currently held in Yekaterinburg.

According to Stanislav Kuznetsov, quoted by the press service of the bank, in recent years the financial sector in general and Sberbank in particular have done a lot in the fight against fraud. First of all, in the field of social engineering, when people give money to criminals, they are under their influence.

The deputy chairman of the board of Sberbank noted due to the elimination of a number of fraudulent call centers located in places of deprivation of liberty, the improvement of anti-fraud mechanisms for banks and mobile operators, and the revision of legislation. Phone scams aimed at Sber customers have decreased by 15-20 times.

He also stated that the total volume of such scams increased by 40% in 2022. The speaker added that this means that criminals have passed from customers of Sberbank to customers of other banks.

“With regard to Sber’s customers, a fundamental change has already taken place in the fight against phone scams. But for this to happen in Russia as a whole, we must join forces. “We are ready to dedicate resources to create a unified automated approach to phone fraud protection that can be used free of charge by all banks.” information for all banks

As soon as the amendments to the Federal Law “On the National Payment System” No. 161-FZ are adopted, banks will have to not accept customer orders for two days for transfers from the Bank of Russia special base to the details of alleged fraudsters, Kuznetsov added.

He also said that Sberbank decided to create a program to combat the downfalls, which are intermediaries that cash out and transfer funds stolen by phone scammers.

“We counted at least 580,000 active drops in Russia – someone is doing it on purpose, someone is “used in the dark,” said Kuznetsov.

According to him, it is possible to fight the activities of these people effectively only by joining forces.
