Sam Bankman-Fried, the former head of the FTX cryptocurrency exchange, used a VPN to access the internet while under house arrest, for which he received a new ban from a judge. It has been reported business insider.
It was noted that the actions of the infamous crypto billionaire were calculated by the American prosecutor’s office, which in the court session demanded that Fried be punished for the violation.
According to the prosecution, Bankman-Fried could potentially use a VPN to trade cryptocurrencies. The lawyers assured that their clients accused of fraud only used the VPN to watch football and would no longer violate this rule.
At the trial, the judge made VPN waiver a condition of bail. Bankman-Fried has already been banned from using encrypted messaging apps due to concerns that he might try to contact FTX employees.
In December 2022, the founder of FTX was accused of fraud and conspiracy to misuse funds from customers of the crypto exchange, which filed for bankruptcy last November.
