Resident Evil 4 Remake introduces a new gameplay mechanic for fending off knife attacks, which is also suitable for defending against ax and pitchfork attacks during early game village battles. In an interview with the magazine about this Game Informer said game designer Kazunori Kadoi.
“If we wanted to do blade fighting in the remake, how would we do it?” We were like. This question finally became the beginning of the creation of new mechanics, ”said the developer.
According to him, initially parry was created only for the battle of the main character Leon Kennedy with one of the enemies – Jack Krauser. In the original game, the conflict took place on the blades, but was framed in the form of a video of QTE pressing buttons at the right time.
“After applying the parry mechanics and replaying the original Resident Evil 4, I found myself wanting to parry in the original as well. That’s when I felt like we were creating something really interesting,” Kadoy added.
As a result, the developers allowed Leon Kennedy to use parry with knives and other enemies in the game’s storyline. The designer added that they focused primarily on Resident Evil VII and Resident Evil VIII when creating locations.
