The proportion of adult Russians using the Telegram messenger reached 51% in December 2022. In this respect informs TASS cites the words of Valery Fedorov, Director General of the All-Russian Center for Public Opinion (VTsIOM).

“Telegram has the highest audience growth – 51% already in December 2022, if in February 2021 29% of Russians aged 18+ polled said they used it,” the news agency said, quoting Fedorov’s words.

According to VTsIOM, the most popular Internet services among Russians are WhatsApp, YouTube and VKontakte. About 90% of Russians aged 18 to 24 use the listed services. In the 45-59 category, WhatsApp accounts for 79% of the audience, YouTube 67% and YouTube 45%.

Curiously, the share of adult TikTok users in the Russian Federation increased in the 2021-2022 period. If in February 2021 only 20% of people aged 18+ used TikTok, by the end of 2022 that number had risen to 30% despite the restriction placed on posting new content. At the same time, viewers of Instagram (Meta’s owner is recognized and banned in Russia as extremist) increased from 41% to 20%, and Facebook (owner of Meta is considered extremist and banned in Russia) audience has dropped from 41% to 20%. 19% to 7%.
