Global tablet shipments in 2022 reached 162.8 million units, down 3.3% from 2021. In this respect informs analytical agency IDC. It was noted that 2022 will be interrupted by two years of steady growth of the market.
In 2022, only Apple was able to grow. The American brand reached 61.8 million devices, which is 7% more than the result of 2021. In second place was Samsung, which sold 30.3 million tablets and lost 0.8% in shipments last year. Amazon’s Kindle tablets entered the top three, selling 16 million units, down 0.7% from 2021.
At the same time, device shipments in the fourth quarter of 2022, on the contrary, increased by 3.3% to 45.7 million devices. In the last quarter of 2022, Apple was the main driver of the market – during the specified period, the company managed to sell 22.5 million iPads, which is 28.8% more than last year’s result. In second place was the Samsung brand with 7.7 million tablets, which is 7.1% more than in the fourth quarter of 2021. The top three were closed by the Amazon brand, with 2.5 million devices, 31.1% less than the previous year.
Despite the market contraction, analysts are positive about the 2022 result as the result still surpasses the pre-COVID-19 period. IDC believes that in 2023, due to the worldwide economic downturn, vendors will focus more on the commercial segment than the consumer.
