Apple found guilty of copyright infringement in the development of Apple Watch

Apple infringed on one of Masimo’s pulse oximeter patents when developing Apple Watch models that use light sensors to measure blood oxygen levels. About informs The publication MacRumors cites the decision of a US International Trade Commission (ITC) judge.

Masimo filed a complaint with the ITC against Apple in the summer of 2021. The company requests that Apple Watch Series 6 and newer models that use pulse oximetry be discontinued. Masimo filed five patent infringement claims.

The court concluded that Apple used someone else’s intellectual property, but only in one patent. ITC will now have to consider ending sales of these Apple Watch models in the US. The final decision will be announced on May 10, 2023.

Apple did not agree with the court’s decision. IT companies are waiting for the final decision of the ITC.
