Zuckerberg buys a company that prints eyeglasses

Meta (considered extremist and banned in Russia), headed by Mark Zuckerberg, announced that it has acquired Belgian-Dutch company Luxexcel, which specializes in eyeglass lenses. It has been reported TechCrunch.

It is noted that Luxexcel was founded in 2009 and has since developed 3D printing technologies for diopter lenses. The European firm’s developments are expected to concern the VR glasses division of the American technology company.

TechCrunch believes the new presence will help the company strengthen its presence in the augmented reality market. Currently, the direction takes up more than 50% of the budget of Reality Labs’ core division within Meta.

The company is currently working on augmented reality glasses codenamed Project Nazare. Zuckerberg said the gadget will hit the market in the coming years and will help develop Luxexcel.

At the same time, at the moment virtual reality headsets, unlike glasses, do not provide optics with diopters – they must be purchased from third-party manufacturers.

It was previously reported that Zuckerberg. included in the list of worst managers Technology companies in 2022, according to The Guardian. The billionaire was considered an unsuccessful CEO in February of this year due to the record drop in the company’s shares, as well as his decision to lay off about 11,000 employees in one day.
