Valery Stepanov, Head of the Competence Center for Information Security T1 Integration, in an interview with the agency “Hitting the Primer” that messenger users could be victims of surveillance.

The expert noted that hackers wrote a script that allows you to determine the exact location of people using the “Find nearby people” function in Telegram.

According to Stepanov, WhatsApp vulnerabilities give attackers the opportunity to collect large amounts of data about the user. In addition, scammers can send spam and bots to gather information about the location of the smartphone.

The expert suggested using geolocation only when necessary, logging into an account with two-factor authentication, and limiting groups of people who can send messages and add chats.

Former WhatsApp developers discovered the possibility of hacking the application using video calls.
