Sberbank Vice President Stanislav Kuznetsov said in an interview: The newspaper “Izvestia”How scammers’ withdrawal methods have changed after Visa and MasterCard left Russia.
Kuznetsov noted that, according to data for the fourth quarter of 2022, the main channel of withdrawals through fraudulent schemes is cards of Russian banks, up to 60%.
“The stolen funds are converted into cash, converted into currency and “accumulated” in the “money centers” of the St. Petersburg and Leningrad region, Kuznetsov said, noting the peculiarities of the region – the undeveloped video surveillance.
Another tool, according to senior management, was cryptocurrency, in which stolen funds were converted using illegal services found in a number of shopping centers in Moscow.
“The cryptocurrency is then cashed out in Ukraine and used, among other things, to fund its military,” Kuznetsov says.
Sber’s vice president said that thanks to its Antidrop strategy, Sber is pushing people out of the drop bank who are trying to cash out stolen funds.
“So, in 2022 alone, more than 45 thousand attempts to issue cards were blocked, not a single complaint was received from customers,” said Kuznetsov.
