It is stated that the deliveries are made through unofficial channels – companies from Turkey, Hong Kong and Estonia. “Elmec Trade Oü, an electronic components wholesaler from Tallinn, shipped at least $17 million worth of goods to Russia between April 1 and October 31,” the article states.
According to the agency, the total cost of microchips imported by Russia has increased since February 2022. Reuters calculated that the total amount of foreign chip purchases from April to November this year alone was $2.6 billion.
Citing company documents, the agency said some suppliers, including firms in Hong Kong and Turkey, are linked to Russian nationals. Reuters also concluded that components from American companies Texas Instruments, Analog Devices and German Infineon Technologies were also supplied to Russia.
