Russians participating in the class action lawsuit against Netflix will not receive the requested amount of 60 million rubles. Efim Kazantsev, member of the Legal Support Commission of the Digital Economy of the Moscow Branch of the Russian Bar Association (AJUR), informed socialbites.ca about this issue.
“Even horrific cases involving real suffering, serious injuries, and even the death of someone rarely save more than a few hundred thousand rubles,” he said.
Kazantsev explained that in the disputed case, we talked about compensation for non-pecuniary damage to consumers who did not receive the service. This is incomparable with physical damage and allows us to expect compensation in the amount of no more than 5-10 thousand rubles.
The expert believes that the amount is 60 million rubles. It was chosen just to draw attention. In fact, he believes the lawyers who brought the case probably realized that it was impossible to obtain such compensation.
It was learned on April 13 that 20 Russians filed a class action lawsuit against Netflix. Users accused the online platform of violating the norms of the Civil Code and the “Law on the Protection of Consumer Rights”.
