Twitter has stopped a campaign against disinformation about COVID-19 on its social network. About informs CNN’s edition.
“As of November 23, 2022, Twitter’s anti-misleading policy no longer applies to COVID-19,” the company said in a statement.
Twitter did not comment on this decision and did not make any public statement. The company edited a section of the site dedicated to Twitter’s stance on COVID-19 and highlighting journalists.
CNN recalls that Elon Musk, the current CEO of an IT company, has repeatedly criticized anti-COVID measures in the United States. For example, speaking to Wall Street analysts in April 2020, Musk called the quarantine “forced imprisonment of people in violation of their constitutional rights.”
Also, CNN material concludes that from January 2020 to September 2022, Twitter suspended more than 11,000 accounts for spreading misinformation about COVID-19. For the same reasons, the social network deleted about 100,000 posts.
