Speaking at the Digital Diamond forum in Yakutsk, the Minister of Digital Development, Telecommunications and Mass Communications Maksut Shadayev talked about a new satellite communications project that will provide Internet to the entire Arctic. “We have an ongoing project initiated by the Ministry of Digital Transformation and handed over to Roscosmos. This is the launch of four spacecraft that will be used in a high elliptical orbit to provide Internet access. The high elliptical orbit makes it possible to effectively cover the Arctic region, ”said the head of the Ministry of Digital Development.

He also praised private companies, which are often the initiators of such projects. According to Shadayev, its funds are provided by Roskosmos and the Ministry of Digital Development, acting as partners.

The Minister also announced the signing of an agreement that provides for the provision of communications to the Arctic regions for three years. Shadayev described the development of fast satellite Internet as a priority and said that a group considering such initiatives has already been formed in the Cabinet.
