The Thing and Halloween director John Carpenter often spends his time playing video games. In a recent interview with The AV Club, the 74-year-old director talked extensively about his hobby.
- Carpenter’s first game Sonic the hedgehog. Later he also met Yak and Daxter;
- Now games take up a big part of Carpenter’s life. Among recent projects, he noted one of the parts of Borderlands, Assassin’s Creed Valhalla, Horizon: Forbidden West and Fallout 76. In the latter, he spent an obscene amount of time;
- The director has a penchant for open world games, but also loves the Crash Bandicoot and Ratchet And Clank series;
- Carpenter has never heard of it Elden Ring, but might try it soon;
- The director knows who Hideo Kojima is – remember that the hero Snake Pliskin from New York’s Carpenter’s Escape became the prototype of Solid Snake from Metal Gear Solid. The director didn’t play Kojima’s games, but saw his son go through them;
- Carpenter likes the early parts of Assassin’s Creed where you have to climb towers to sync. But Assassin’s Creed: Origins also appeared “recurring»;
- The director left The Last Of Us: Part 2 When The Generator Won’t Start: “It’s so unfair! I wanted to continue playing, but the developers didn’t allow it»;
- When asked about film adaptations, Carpenter replied that he would like to make a film based on: Empty space: “The game will make for a great movie. I can do it»;
- By the way, Carpenter loves all parts of Dead Space – including the controversial third.
