What is the original Overwatch for?
If you bought the original Overwatch will dramatically increase the number of unlocked characters at launch in the second installment. Not only do you get a completely new heroine – Kiriko, the rest is also available.
If you didn’t purchase Overwatch, only 15 of the 35 characters will be unlocked. If you log in before the end of Season 1 (or Season 2 for Overwatch 1 owners, you’ll also unlock Sojorn and the Vulture Queen permanently.
All other heroes are unlocked after a certain number of matches played. At the same time, even ordinary battles are counted, participation in rating battles is not necessary at all. It’s important that you can play as any locked hero if you team up with a friend who has already unlocked them all.
How to unlock all characters
After the start of the game, many heroes will already be available. These include: Orisa, Reinhardt, Winston, Dawn, Pharah, Reaper, Soldier 76, Torbjorn, Tracer, Widowmaker, Lucio, Angel, and Moira.
As we mentioned above, you need to play a certain number of matches to access the remaining ones.

How to unlock Kiriko in Overwatch 2
Kiriko is a new heroine and the only one that is blocked for both veterans and newcomers. Unlike the characters mentioned above, she can only be unlocked through the Battle Pass, no matter the number of matches.
Reach level 55 to access Kiriko free battle pass. You can also unlock it directly by purchasing premium battle pass for 1000 coins – local premium currency.
