How to connect speakers to TV

Most modern TVs have simple speakers that don’t have high sound quality. Sound quality can be improved by using a speaker system. If you’re having trouble connecting, check out our guide.

How to connect speakers to a TV with a cable (HDMI, Toslink, MiniJack, RCA and others)

This method is suitable for almost any TV. However, keep in mind that the sound quality directly depends on the connector type. It is important that it matches on the TV and on the audio system.

HDMI. The best way to connect speakers right now. You get the best sound quality. Keep in mind that modern high-performance audio systems can only be connected to the TV via HDMI. Otherwise you risk damaging the equipment.

Toslink (optical cable). Another modern connection option. It is mainly used on Toshiba equipment. Fiber optic provides excellent sound quality.

Mini Jack (3.5mm). Standard way to connect audio equipment. The sound quality will be lower than via HDMI or Toslink, but if one of your devices does not have such a connection, then MiniJack is the best choice.

RCA (“Tulip”) SCART and line input. These connection methods are used on older models of speakers and TVs. Only use them if the devices do not have a MiniJack or HDMI.

The connection is quite simple. You need to connect two identical connectors with a cable. The only exception is RCA (“Tulip”). It is necessary to interchange the white and red plugs with the corresponding connectors on both devices. The yellow cable is responsible for the video signal, it is not used to connect speakers.

If the speakers and TV do not have the same connections, you can use different adapters.

Connecting Wireless Speakers to TV

To use a wireless connection, your speakers must be equipped with a Bluetooth device. Even if this module is not available on the TV, you can purchase an external Bluetooth adapter that connects via USB. If the TV doesn’t have USB inputs, you won’t be able to connect the speakers wirelessly.

Instructions for connecting speakers via Bluetooth:

1. Turn on the TV and speakers. If you have a separate Bluetooth device, connect it.
2. For TVs with built-in Bluetooth. Open the menu “External Audio Devices”. If you have a wireless adapter plugged in, go to the USB devices section and start searching.
3. Find your speakers and select them.
4. Wait for the device to pair. Confirm the action if necessary.

How to connect smart speaker Alice to TV

Use the HDMI cable that comes with the kit to connect the Alice speakers from the large Yandex.Station to the TV. Further actions will take place automatically. In the same way, you can connect smart speakers from other manufacturers.

If desired, you can connect a mini pillar Alice to the TV. To do this, turn it on and say “Alice, activate Bluetooth”. We have described the further algorithm in the previous section.
