How to open safes?
The principle of using safes is quite simple: the player has to find a special code somewhere on the level and use it to open a locked safe. Most of them are hidden near the boxes, but the player has to be careful when searching carefully.
Finding passwords for safes is optional, so gamers don’t have to worry about opening each safe, but there are useful items hidden inside that make survival much easier. There is also an achievement for finding all passwords. “Dexterous Fingers”, which users can open after inspecting each vault. All the codes of the locked vaults are listed in the sections below.
How to open a safe in the suburbs (city center)
You will find the very first safe after a few hours of playing. We get to the ruined subway in the city center and avoid encounters with zombies. Go directly to the left side of the location and find the store. We jump over the counter and open the drawer behind the cash register. Inside is a note with a combination from the safe – “03-43-78”.
We leave through the central door and walk on until we find a bookstore.
We investigate a large safe behind another counter in the room. Enter the code and receive 50 parts.
How to open a safe in Bill’s Town (forest)
In the first part of the level, Joel will carry Ellie over the wire mesh fence and ask her to open the door. The player is on a street with many buildings to look into. We come to this area and go along the path to the right. On the way we see a large metal safe on the street next to the pick-up truck.
At the very end of the street we find a note with the code of the safe, which is attached to the barbed wire – “05-17-21”.
We return to the box and open it. Inside we find 50 parts, 5 additions and cartridges for shotgun.
How to Open a Safe in Pittsburgh (Hotel Lobby)
At the hotel, Joel must place a ladder on the left side of the lobby to continue the path. We install the item in the right place and go upstairs. Immediately we go to the right and we go through the ruined passage along the wall. We examine the open briefcase. Inside we find a note with a code from the safe – “10/22/56”.
We jump back to the ground floor and on the right side of the room we find another room behind the reception.
In the room, examine the safe and enter the correct combination. Picking up folder, 50 parts, revolver cartridges and others materials for creating articles.
How to Open a Safe in Suburbia (House)
After escaping the sewer, Joel and Ellie find themselves in a tiny house. We are not going into a big wide street, otherwise when meeting with a sniper it will be impossible to return to the vault and you will have to reload the whole chapter. We explore the last house in this area and go past the blue ice cream truck to a dead end area.
We find the code to the safe in the house in the attic… “08/21/36”. To do this, you need to inspect the matchbox.
We go down one floor and open the safe in the bedroom closet. We will find inside 10 additions, 50 parts and shotgun shells.
