Developers at studio Hangar 13 gave an interview in which they talked about two decades of work on a series of crime thrillers Mafia.

The interviewer spoke with General Manager Roman Hladík and Head of Production Tomas Hrebicek, who worked on all parts, and Creative Director Alex Cox, who joined the studio during Part 2’s development. We got the most interesting details from the interview collected.

An innovation in the remake of the first Mafia, who impressed Cox the most, was the adaptation of Sarah, the only female protagonist in the original. Hladik mentioned the visual improvements that made it possible to create picturesque landscapes and better convey the atmosphere of the cities of the 1930s. Grzebicek noted the revised cutscenes. New technologies have helped the developers to capture every little detail and correctly convey the emotions of the characters through their facial expressions.

As for the missions, he remembers “Journey to the Village” from the remake for the atmosphere and gameplay elements. Of the minor characters, Grzebicek selected Burke and Donovan from Mafia 3, as well as Pauly from the first part for his excessive naivety. The main characters are Tommy and Vito. Cox named Vito his favorite main character, and from the secondary he chose Donovan Mafia 3. His favorite mission was “The Memory of Francesco Potenza” from the second part.
