The presence of two main characters is one of the most important characteristics Assassin’s Creed Shadows. Instead of just choosing a protagonist on a preferred floor, you get two full characters with a unique game style and individual plot lines. In this guide we will tell you everything about the mechanics of character change when it becomes available and what limitations have.
How to change the character into Assassin’s Creed Shadows
So the novelty has two heroes:
- Yasuke is a powerful samurai focused on open battle;
- Naue is a smart synobi that specializes in confidentiality.
In the beginning you will not have a choice and the plot will determine who you have to play in every mission. As you pass by, however, the possibility to choose a character for most tasks is opened, with the exception of some plot deliveries that are strictly intended for one of the heroes.
To freely change the characters in Assassin’s Creed Shadows, you first have to go to the plot chapter “New Union”. This chapter starts after passing the mission “Thunder and Lightning” and is approximately corresponding to the 10th hour of the game. After you unlock the new chapter, you can freely switch between Nae and Yasuke at any time.
When both characters become accessible, they offer you in Katsen to choose “Play for Yasuke” or “Play for Nau”. However, this does not solve your choice – you can change the hero at any time during the task.

To switch between the signs:
- Open the game menu;
- Go to the Inventory or Skill tab.;
- Hold the Character change button.
After clicking, the loading screen appears that “synchronization” simulates. The new hero will appear in the same place where the previous one was, so you don’t have to return to the checkpoint or to overcome the path already travel.

Another way to change the character is fast movement on the world map. Choose each point in a fast journey and you have an extra option: “Fast movement and change of the character”. So you can not only change the hero, but also go to the right place at the same time.
Limitations in changing characters
Sometimes the game does not suggest switching between the characters and the message appear “inaccessible in the current game context.” This happens in the following cases:
- You are in battle;
- You have invaded the protected territory, where enemies can become hostile when they are detected;
- Even if there are no visible opponents in the area, the system can temporarily block the character change – try to move a little further from the danger zone and repeat the attempt.

When moving the shift of the hero, even if the zoning point is in a reinforced location, for example in a castle or temple under the control of the enemy.
There are also plot missions where you have to play for a specific character. Even with such tasks, however, there are often segments for a shift. You often have to see the synchronization/loading screen. If you meet an NPC with a task available for just one of the heroes, open the menu, change the character and talk to him. Automatic shift is not provided.
