Former PlayStation Studios (formerly SIE Worldwide Studios) Shuhei Yoshida said in a recent interview that the sale Horizon Forbidden West, released in 2022 on PS4 and PS5, did not meet his expectations, as he expected the game to sell in large quantities.

According to him, Horizon Forbidden West is a continuation of an already established and proven franchise. Based on this, the project should have shown higher sales, according to Shuhei Yoshida. At the same time, he called the sequel ‘large-scale and brilliant’.

In May 2023, Sony stated that Horizon Forbidden West had sold 8.4 million copies. On March 21, 2024, the game was released on PC, becoming the publisher’s sixth biggest release on Steam. Now she has 89% positive reviews (the rating is based on 13.7 thousand reviews).
Regarding Horizon Zero Dawn, sales as of April 2023 amounted to 24.3 million copies. The project was released on PS4 in 2017 and on PC in 2020. Sony later released a remaster.
As a reminder, Shuhei Yoshida served as president of SIE Worldwide Studios from 2008 to 2019. He then became head of PlayStation Indies, but left the company permanently this month.
By the way, Sony recently announced a film adaptation of Horizon Zero Dawn.
