Make jokes about “Crysis at maximum graphics settings” became so common among gamers that the game served as a benchmark for PC systems. In a recent interview, game director Cevat Yerli explained why this happened.
Speaking to PC Gamer, he admitted that Crysis had graphics settings aimed at future systems. According to him, their team “arrogantly” counted on features that were relevant for 2010, and not for 2007. All so that the game does not become outdated even years later, despite the new hardware:
I wanted to make sure Crysis didn’t get old [он] is future-proof, meaning that when I play it in three years, it should look better than it does now. Many people immediately tried to run Crysis at maximum graphics. And my response was, “Oh, that’s not why we made Ultra or Very High mode.”

By the way, in 2020, Digital Foundry experts found that on a powerful system from 2007 with a resolution of 1168×665, Crysis produces no more than 30 FPS per second. So Crytek clearly made a mistake by trying to make a forever game.
Let us remind you that in August, the gameplay of the canceled multiplayer Crysis Next was leaked online. Moreover, it is under development from 2022 Crysis 4, about which there is still no information.
