Studio Bulkhead Interactive announced the termination of its partnership with Square Enix and also made an important announcement – soon its military shooter Battalion 1944 will be free forever. By the way, this game is inspired by the early parts of Call of Duty. As of March this year, it is no longer sold in the Russian Steam region.

We have officially ended our relationship with Square Enix. We are deeply disappointed that Battalion 1944 never made it to consoles, but we will repay everyone who funded the Kickstarter console version of the project. Thanks to everyone who has supported us. We’re sorry it took so long to resolve this. We appreciate the passionate support we’ve received from Battalion fans and old school shooters. We look forward to having you continue with us on our journey to creating first-person shooters with community and player involvement at the core of development.

The developers plan to move the project to the F2P model by releasing a “final and fully completed version” of Battalion 1944, which will be called Battalion: Legacy (same game as the original, but more refined). This will happen on August 16 this year.

Battalion: Legacy is the reworked and final version of Battalion 1944, which we will release for free on August 16, 2022. We’ve taken the best aspects of Battalion 1944 and tweaked it to create a smooth, bug-free experience. New faction (British), new weapons (over 30 in total), classic game mode Search and Destroy with all available weapons, complete overhaul of the UI and visual improvements. Battalion: Legacy is the pinnacle of all our work.
