Dragon Age: The Veilguard is a highly anticipated project from BioWare that immerses players in the rich and multi-layered universe of Dragon Age. In the new chapter of the franchise, you become a defender whose job is to protect the thin line between the physical world of Thedas and parallel realities where ghosts and demons live. In this guide, we’ll take a closer look at all the decisions you can make in the final missions to get a unique ending. Every action you take has consequences that affect the outcome of the game.
What affects getting the ending?
There are many different ending combinations depending on which characters survive and which meet their fate. However, it is important to note that the overall structure of the final missions and final boss battle will remain unchanged. This means that while your choices and consequences may lead to different outcomes and changes in the story, the process of completing the mission and encountering your main enemy will remain the same. We have described below the main operational factors for obtaining endings.
Faction star rating
Faction Star Rating is an important aspect of gameplay that affects your interactions with different groups in the game. We recommend that you strive for it third faction levelas this gives access to additional features and privileges.
A faction’s rating increases by completing tasks related to that faction, and by selling valuable items to a merchant who is part of it. The higher your rating, the more confidence you gain, which can result unique quests, improving relationships with characters and other benefits.
“Hero” status
If your allies have achieved the status of ‘Heroes’, this will provide unique opportunities and privileges for them in the game. To obtain this status, you must complete special quest lineswhich begin with conversations with companions at the lighthouse.
Division of tasks between partners
The final mission, which covers Chapters 12 through 14, requires you to carefully and strategically distribute tasks among your companions. Each task has its own characteristics and it is important to take into account the skills and strengths of each character.
Choosing the wrong companion for a given task can have dire consequences, including the death of key faction NPCs or even the death of your companions. This adds an element of tension and responsibility to your decisions, as every action can affect the outcome of the mission and the fate of your heroes.
How to get to a good ending
The best ending of the game can be considered one in which all your allies – both companions and faction leaders – remain alive. To achieve this result, you must complete absolutely every quest in the game and each of your companions must reach the status of ‘Heroes’.
In addition, it is important to reach three faction stars, which ensures a high level of trust and support from allies. This path requires care and strategic planning, as you will have to make important decisions and successfully perform various tasks. By completing all the necessary quests and strengthening your relationships with the factions, you can ensure a safe outcome for all your heroes.
In Chapter 12 you must choose a teammate as a distraction target. Please note that regardless of your choice, this character will not survive. If this has already happened, don’t worry: it’s part of the plot and the situation doesn’t affect the trophy. This way you can continue playing without having to worry about the consequences of this choice. Just focus on completing other tasks and progressing through the story as the developers intended.
After the boss fight in Chapter 12, you will again have to choose an ally who will destroy the wards. This time your choice will be between Niv and Bellar. Regardless of who you choose, that character will temporarily leave your party and appear as dead. Don’t be angry: you’ll get a chance to save him in the next story chapter. When the character returns, be sure to upgrade him to ‘Hero’ status.
Obtaining the achievement “The Ones That Last”
Below we provide a complete list of actions to help you achieve this achievement:
- In Chapter 6 (A Warden’s Best Friend), select Save MINRATHOUSNEthis will help you achieve at least 2-3 faction stars. If you choose to save Treviso, Dock Town will remain at 1 faction star and one of the faction leaders may die, invalidating the trophy;
- In Chapter 12, select (Isle of the Gods). Darwin as cannon fodder for the boss, this character’s death is inevitable. Select Bellarooremove protection. She will temporarily leave your team, but don’t worry: you’ll get a chance to rescue her later. Select Harding And Nive to complete the next mission.
In Chapter 13 (The Last Gambit), in which you return to the lighthouse, after interacting with the table in the rooms of Lukanis, you will have to assign specific roles to your companions in the coming battle. Select the following characters:
- Taash – A companion experienced with magical shields or protecting others in battle;
- Lukanis — A companion with experience in combat with mages or surprise attacks;
- Harding – A companion who has experience fighting large enemies.
Once you’ve escorted Solas to the safety of the city, you’ll encounter plenty of NPCs to interact with. Pay attention to the task marked with a blue marker, which allows you to honor the memory of the fallen.
In Chapter 14 (The Dread Wolf Rises) you will need to reassign your companions. Best recommendations for choosing:
- Taash – A companion experienced in frontline battles or sieges;
- After defeating the final boss, select the following dialogues: “Let’s try your method” > “I wish everything was different”.
How to get a bad ending
To get the worst ending, you have to take completely opposite steps. Start the final mission with only 1 star in all factions and without reaching “Hero” status for your companions. When assigning companions in chapters 12-14, choose the wrong roles for them.
These actions will result in an almost complete loss of your team, which will ultimately lead to you getting the worst ending. So you see how your decisions influence the fate of the characters and the development of the plot in the darkest version of events.
How to Get the Secret Ending (Post-Credits Scene)
The secret ending is revealed when you watch the credits of the final mission. To unlock it, you must meet several conditions:
- Complete the story quest first “When plans are aligned”;
- Second, make sure you complete the side mission Regret of the dreaded wolf. This quest plays an important role in revealing additional details of the plot and characters.
- And finally, you need to find three “Mysterious Circles”.
Where can you find mysterious circles?
