Fighting and shooting video games such as GTA, Call of Duty and Fortnite were and still are popular. But many don’t know why. And now a team of scientists from the University of New South Wales in Sydney offered an explanation for this phenomenon.

Biologists and psychologists have developed a theory based on evolutionary psychology and cognitive assessment theory. The bottom line is that, according to scientists, such games cover a number of gamers’ psychological needs, which makes them popular.
Among these, they notice a sense of control over the situation, social attachment, and achieving success. It’s the violent video games that give it their all, in the form of completing missions, choosing weapon upgrades and the like.
Such video games also allow you to experience situations that are most likely not going to happen in reality. They also allow gamers to control their emotions. That is, in this regard, games turn out to be similar to sports in that they allow you to control aggressive behavior and the innate desire for rivalry, reducing it to a socially acceptable way.
