We continue to get acquainted with HONOR tablets. In the last review we looked at the new HONOR MagicPad 2, and this time we will study a model from the entry-level line: HONOR Pad X8a.

Appearance and equipment
The gadget comes in a classic white box with an image of a tablet. Inside there is a device with a cable and a 10W charging function, as well as an ejector for the memory expansion tray and documentation.
HONOR Pad X8a is available in one color: Space Gray. The lid is made entirely of metal and the texture is pleasant to the touch and does not slip. The thickness of the tablet is 7.25 mm and it weighs less than 500 grams. It is convenient to work with and you cannot call it bulky or heavy.
On the top frame you only see holes for the speakers, there are no buttons on it, because the power button, volume control and memory expansion tray are on the right edge. The buttons are pleasant to press, with little effort.
At the bottom there are only holes for the speakers and microphone, on the left there is nothing.
The audio system consists of four speakers with increased amplitude, which cope well with music and games. The microphone clearly picks up the voice for recording videos or making phone calls – artificial intelligence removes unnecessary noise and only slightly distorts the original sound.
HONOR Pad X8a offers an 11-inch screen with 84% usable area. The display supports a resolution of 1920×1200 and a maximum brightness of 400 nits. On a sunny day this may not be enough, but indoors the screen leaves only positive impressions: HD movies look rich and action looks smooth, without a hint of blur. The maximum refresh rate of 90 Hz is sufficient for work, watching movies and undemanding games.
Separately, we note that the display uses a number of vision protection technologies, reduces the level of blue light at the hardware level and suppresses flicker. There is also an e-book mode that simulates the effect of reading on paper.
The outdoor unit with the camera protrudes slightly, so that the tablet does not dangle when it is on the table.
Both cameras are equipped with a 5 megapixel sensor and f/2.2 aperture optics. The front camera also has a face unlock function and the main one has autofocus. Photos and videos are suitable for sending information, scanning documents or other work tasks. You shouldn’t count on more.
Productivity and gaming
The HONOR Pad RAM memory – 4 GB. HONOR RAM Turbo technology allows you to use part of the internal memory and increase the RAM from 4 to 8 GB, which actually slightly improves performance.
The storage capacity of the model in our test is 128 GB (there is also a 64 GB option). If necessary, the storage is expandable up to 1 TB using a microSD memory card. There is also a version with LTE for sale if you need mobile internet for the device.
We tested the tablet in Geekbench 6 and AnTuTu tests (results in images).
Is this configuration sufficient for games? For demanding projects like Genshin Impact – not really. You can start the game, but you should not expect smooth gameplay. Less demanding titles such as PUBG or Call of Duty Mobile can achieve 30-45 frames per second. But we recommend choosing simpler projects for games.
A battery with a capacity of 8300 mAh is enough for several hours of gaming, and for watching videos or working – for 11-12 hours. The tablet charges 50% in about 100 minutes.
The device runs on the Magic OS 8.0 shell based on Android 14. Multi-window mode allows you to use four applications at the same time, and the APP Extender function simultaneously opens two windows of the same application with different interfaces. The shell itself is responsive, there is no trace of lag or stuttering.
Results and prizes
HONOR Pad X8a can be defined as a worthy solution in the entry-level segment. What sets it apart from the crowd is the stylish metal casing and the good IPS screen with enough brightness and responsiveness for working and watching movies or videos.
