Appearance and features
The model comes in a thick cardboard box, and the robot itself is protected by an additional layer of cardboard, so you don’t have to worry about its safety during transportation.
The kit includes the Dreame D9 Max 2nd generation vacuum cleaner itself, a side brush, a water container with microfiber to sweep the floor, an RC 50 charging station and documentation.
In our review the robot is finished in black, but there is also a white version on offer. The housing is made entirely of matte plastic, there are no glossy surfaces.
At the top are two buttons: power on and return to the charging station. There is also a LiDAR locator that allows the vacuum cleaner to navigate through the space and create a map of the property. At the front are proximity sensors to surfaces and edges so that the robot stops in time. At the bottom are four sensors that prevent falls from the stairs. The front bumper protects against bumps on the surface.
The main brush is made of silicone, which in practice should help to reduce the amount of hair that gets tangled. The brush is mounted on a spring platform that moves up and down – this system helps with cleaning carpets and similar surfaces. There is only one side brush and it is in a standard location above and to the left of center.
Nidec motors are responsible for the movement of the wheels and thanks to their suspension the vacuum cleaner can overcome obstacles up to a height of 20 mm. The total height of the cabinet is 9.5 cm.
Under the top cover is a 570 ml dust container. It is not the biggest, but it is enough for three complete cleanings of a two-room apartment. There you can see in a niche under the cover a cleaning aid.
The water tank comes with a removable microfiber cloth. Its volume is 235 ml. It is easily attached from below and is held in place with latches and magnets.
Operation
The model uses the Dreamehome application for remote control via a smartphone (the QR code is located under the top cover). The application is intuitive: cleaning modes and intensity are easy to configure, and a room plan is drawn up, divided into rooms and floors. Mobile software is completely in Russian, including voice prompts. The model also connects to third-party assistants (for example, Alice).
The first start of the vacuum cleaner went without problems. The robot is ready to make a map after synchronizing the phone app and setting up WiFi. The entire installation including unpacking and downloading took 5 minutes.
The thorough cleaning and mapping of the kitchen-living room with a corridor with a total area of 40 m² took about 40 minutes. In this case, 10% of the load was consumed. The robot cleans an entire three-room apartment in an hour and a half, while still having energy left for additional tasks.
Carpets are also no problem for the Dreame D9 Max Gen 2 – it removes dust well from small and medium piles and drives easily on such surfaces. Engineers also taught the device to recognize and avoid obstacles – the technology is called Pathfinder.
Wet cleaning hydrates and removes basic dirt well, and one full tank is enough for two rooms. The microfiber cloth is wide enough to cover more space (for example, the Dreame Z10 Pro is almost half the size).
But don’t be fooled: wet cleaning with a robot will not replace full-fledged cleaning with specialized vertical washing vacuum cleaners. However, the author of this review has seasonal allergies. Therefore, such daily wetting of the floor with a robot vacuum cleaner reduces the severity of the symptoms.
It is worth mentioning that Dreame D9 Max Gen 2 is a powerful vacuum cleaner with a maximum suction power of 6000 Pa. When you turn on the turbo mode, the volume is no longer comfortable, but this is the price for a thorough cleaning. In addition, you can always opt for a delayed start or even have the robot clean remotely when you are not at home.
Results and prizes
Dreame D9 Max Gen 2 can be recommended to all users who want to have a cleaning assistant. This robot will significantly reduce or even completely eliminate the self-cleaning of your worries, and its power is sufficient for these tasks. It is easy to use thanks to the responsive app and the voice assistant commands.
Amazing! Dreame D9 Max Gen 2 receives this award for its high suction power of 6000 Pa – one of the highest in this price segment.
