The latest version of the operating system for iPhone and iPad will be available this fall. Anyone can try the iOS 16 public beta right now. Today we will tell you which devices the firmware is suitable for and also describe detailed instructions for installing updates.
Should I install iOS 16 public beta now?
The working version of iOS 16 won’t be released until September, but after the announcement at WWDC 2022, owners of next-generation smartphones and tablets from Apple will be able to download the latest beta updates to their device for free. One such step is the next test phase, which allows a wide range of users to test the software.
While Apple deems this version of the operating system stable enough for public testing, we recommend installing iOS 16 on a backup device, as many applications may not work properly. It should be understood that Apple support probably won’t help you until a working firmware is released.
Which devices is iOS 16 suitable for?
You need an iPhone 8 or later to install iOS 16. This means that iPhone SE, iPhone 6s and 6s Plus and iPhone 7 and 7 Plus are not supported on the new OS version.

How to install iOS 16 public beta
We recommend that you back up your data and files first. In this case, you can always revert the changes if something goes wrong. This option is available on both Apple devices and PCs.
Open Safari on your iPhone or iPad, go to the beta program page and sign in or register. When you sign up for the program, just follow the on-screen instructions. You only need an “Apple ID” for this.
After logging in and registering your device, go to the section iOS 16 or iPad OS 16 (depending on the device used). In the second paragraph, click “Install Profile”. Then confirm the selection in the dialog box.
After completing the previous section, you will be prompted to: “Settings”. Do it and click “View profile”.
Press the button “To install” in the upper right corner. Enter the password and read the warning about the possible instability of the beta version. tap “Allow”to start the installation process.
After the files are preloaded, you will be prompted to reboot the device. Required connect your iPhone or iPad to a power sourceas this step may take some time.
When the device reboots, open “Settings” and select “Base”and then “Software Update”.
In the dialog box that opens, click “Download and Install”and enter a password when prompted. After the next reboot, your smartphone or tablet will run on the public beta version of iOS 16.

New in iOS 16: Lock Screen, Maps, and Hidden Features
Apple announced iOS 16 at its annual WWDC 2022 Developers Conference in June. In this version of the software, users can customize the lock screen, edit text messages in the app “Messages” (Messages), and use the new Wallet and Tap to Pay features for mobile payments. In addition, the ability to share files via iCloud Family Sharing has been added.
Additional changes:
- Appeared “Live Notifications” on the lock screen;
- Added functions for editing widgets, fonts and filters;
- Spatial audio in AirPods now uses the iPhone or iPad’s TrueDepth camera and adapts to the wearer;
- Changed the video player design.
