Forbes gaming journalist Paul Tassi drew attention to the skill icons from the free-to-play shooter The First Descendant, which was recognized as the most anticipated game of July. Compare them to icons from Destiny 2, the author of the article noted a very strong similarity, and in some places – direct copying.

As you can see in the image below, The First Descendant’s skill icons aren’t much different from the icons in the Bungie game:

However, it turned out that things weren’t so simple. Astute readers have pointed out, many icons from Destiny 2 have appeared more than once on services with freely distributed content like this site. It’s likely that the creators of The First Descendant could have used a similar source. Bungie itself also sometimes uses free resources in its games, including some icons or weapon sounds.

The development studios behind The First Descendant and Destiny 2 have not yet confirmed whether this was a copy-paste or if both games used the same source code.

Paul Tassi also noted similarities to the Different Dream rifle from The First Descendant, comparing it to the IKELOS and Sleep Simulator from Destiny 2. In this case, though, he still called this design coincidence a “respectful reference.”

Let us remind you that The First Descendant had a rather bad start on Steam – upon release, the free-to-play shooter received a rating of around 42%. In short, the game was criticized for poor optimization and direct copying of Destiny and War frame.

It doesn’t stop: clickers have once again filled the charts on Steam
