Family group testing has started in the beta version of the Steam client. This is a set of new and existing features that will replace Steam Family Sharing and the Family View feature.
A family group can contain up to six users. Once in there, the player can access other users’ libraries and launch third-party games even if the owner is already playing something else. As before, some titles are not suitable for family groups, as developers sometimes block this feature.
Additionally, participants cannot play one copy of the game at the same time. For example, if you collect a batch Baldur’s Gate 3, then each player will have to buy a separate copy.
Overall, the sharing process has become noticeably easier. To share games in the standard version of Steam, you need to log into someone else’s account and activate the appropriate function.

New parental control features have also appeared in the family group. This allows you to restrict access to certain games and control playing time. If a child wants to buy a game, he can send a request to an adult.
Everyone can try out the new functionality. To do this, go to the Steam settings, go to the “Interface” tab and select Steam Family Beta from the drop-down menu. After this you need to restart the client.
Valve noted that users won’t be able to switch family groups all the time – you can only join another group a year after joining the previous one. Additionally, only users from the same region can be part of a family group.
