Last year we were introduced to two MSI laptops with 13th generation Intel processors and NVIDIA RTX 40 series graphics cards: Raider and Katana. In today’s review we will look at a mid-range laptop MSI Vector GP77 13VG, which at first glance seems to be the most balanced solution in terms of price/quality ratio.

The model is presented in three configurations, which can be found on the manufacturer’s website. Our test included the MSI Vector GP77 13VG-065RU version with Intel Core i7-13700H, NVIDIA GeForce RTX 4070 for laptops, 16 GB DDR5 RAM and the Windows 11 operating system included.

Appearance
You will certainly recognize the design of this laptop if you read our review of the MSI Vector GP66 from last year. The model has adopted almost all the details of its predecessor: from the classic nameplate with the company logo on the top cover to the slightly voluminous hinges at the bottom.

Today we test the MSI Vector GP77 13VG-065RU with a 17-inch screen with QHD resolution. The IPS-level screen has a 240Hz refresh rate, which is ideal for online gaming. The screen does not flicker, the maximum brightness is about 300 cd/m², so you can use the laptop without any problems even on a sunny day.
The matte metal display cover has a slightly striking texture. The laptop opens even with one hand, but still offers some resistance. Opening angle approximately 120°.
A large screen also means a greater weight of the device, namely no less than 2.8 kg without taking into account the 40 W adapter from Delta Electronics. The indicated capacity of the laptop battery is 65 Wh.

In the frame above the screen you will see a webcam with support for a resolution of 720p – suitable for video calls, but no more.

The model does not have additional external RGB backlighting, but you can configure the backlighting of each keyboard key in MSI Center.
The SteelSeries keyboard itself is a full-fledged membrane type. In our opinion, the keys do not have enough travel, making the keystrokes feel soft. The backlight offers four brightness levels and can be turned off completely. The standard size touchpad has been shifted slightly to the left of center.

On the laptop’s left panel are a Kensington lock, a battery charging indicator, USB3.2 Gen2 Type A and USB3.2 Gen2 Type C ports (with video output support), and a standard 3.5mm mini -jack. Here you see the grille of the cooling system.

On the right side there are two USB3.2 Gen2 Type A ports and an exhaust grille for cooling.

The back panel has Mini-DisplayPort, RJ-45 Ethernet, HDMI and power connector ports. There are also openings for removing warm air.

The air intake openings above both coolers of the Cooler Boost 5 system with heat pipes are located in the bottom cover. The laptop stands on four rubber feet.
Performance. Synthetic testing
We tested the MSI Vector GP77 13VG-065RU laptop in synthetic tests Cinebench R23, Geekbench 6, CPU-Z and CrystalDiskMark. The results are in the screenshots.
We also assessed the laptop’s power in 3DMark: Fire Strike Ultra, Time Spy, Time Spy Extreme, CPU Profile and Storage Benchmark tests to check the speed of loading games on the SSD.
Performance. Playtesting
All gaming tests were performed in the extreme performance mode set in MSI Center and at a resolution of 2560 by 1440 pixels.
The temperature of the Intel Core i7-13700H processor with a thermal package of up to 45 W in standard mode and up to 115 W with Turbo Boost did not rise above 80-85 degrees.
The temperature of the RTX 4070 video card for laptops with a TDP up to 140 W rarely exceeded 83 degrees.
The cooling system can handle the load during long gaming sessions well and ensures that the device does not reach extreme values. But in maximum performance mode, it becomes somewhat uncomfortable to play without headphones.
Starfield. The game with ultra settings and official DLSS in Performance mode without frame generation shows 80 frames per second.
With frame generation and quality mode for DLSS you can see 90 frames per second.
Cyberpunk 2077. Maximum graphics settings, ray tracing mode “Overload” with Path Tracing, DLSS in “Performance” mode and frame generation enabled.
The built-in benchmark showed an average of 40 frames per second. In fact, in the gaming city you can see 50-60 FPS, but for a truly smooth image you will have to sacrifice quality.
Ray tracing mode “Medium”, DLSS in “Performance” mode and frame generation enabled already offer significantly more stable gameplay. Here you see 80 FPS in the built-in benchmark and 85-90 FPS in the city.
RoboCop: Rogue City. The shooter from the Polish company Teyon still cannot boast of high-quality optimization and stable work with upscalers. The game refused to work with frame generation in any mode, so the test was only run with DLSS enabled in “Performance” mode. This is how we arrived at a stable 70 frames per second.
Results and prizes

The MSI Vector GP77 13VG laptop is suitable for every gamer who wants to play at maximum settings in 2K resolution. Online projects like World of Tanks or Counter-Strike 2 will help you really unleash the 240Hz display, where the frame rate will be very smooth.
Astonishing! In terms of power, the device is not inferior to mid-range PC builds and can handle the most demanding games without any problems.
Perfect installation. The laptop has an impressive appearance, stable performance and a comfortable full-size keyboard that does not flex significantly or heat up during long gaming sessions.
