Rotate Classic 3D Shooter DOOM on all kinds of devices has long been a favorite pastime of enthusiasts. And now it can run without any operating system at all.

Recently Coreboot 4.17 was released – an open alternative to proprietary BIOS and UEFI firmware for PCs and laptops. And there, complete with system files, there is a shooter. The bottom line is that Coreboot can not only initialize the hardware, but also has the so-called “payload”. This is extra software, in this case a port of a game called CoreDoom. Incidentally, the ported version had already been launched in this way before. Space Invaders and Tetris. You don’t need an operating system to run it.

CoreDoom is based on the DoomGeneric port and is installed directly into the BIOS chip. The main thing is that there is enough space. While there are limitations – a keyboard with a PS/2 port is used for control – USB support will be added later. Also in the game there is no sound, the function of saving and changing settings. And when you exit the game, the system freezes.

However, the fact that the game was able to run in such conditions is astonishing. Earlier we remember that the game was launched in pseudo-graphics mode, on a wired phone, on the Sega Genesis console and on potatoes. The Heart of Russia add-on for Euro Truck Simulator 2 will not be released
