Activision Blizzard has made a generous offer to all teams participating in the Overwatch League tournament. The company promised to pay each of them $6 million for refusing to participate in the new league season. This is associated with a recent financial report, which talked about the problems in this esports discipline.
In the second quarter, we changed some terms of our partnership agreements with team organizations participating in the Overwatch League. Under the amended terms, teams will need to vote on the updated operating agreement after the end of the current Overwatch League season. If the teams do not agree to continue under the updated operating agreement, each participant will receive a termination fee of $6 million (approximately $114 million in total).

According to Reuters, the future of the Overwatch League is in jeopardy, which is why Activision Blizzard has decided to review the contracts of 19 teams participating in the league. Thus, the company is ready to pay each of them $6 million in cash (the total amount is $114 million).
After the end of the season, team owners will vote on whether to continue with the updated operating agreement or accept the offer of severance pay.
Given the sharp drop in viewership and the league’s financial problems, it’s likely teams will accept Activision Blizzard’s offer and take the money. The current season runs until October.
Recall that it recently became known that Blizzard Entertainment plans to release their games, including Overwatch 2 on Steam.
