Update Microsoft Visual C++

It’s a good idea to check that the Microsoft Visual C++ Redistributable Packages are up to date, as most modern games rely on them for stable operation. Follow this link and download the latest updates and then install them on your PC.
Update DirectX
DirectX is also required for the stable operation of the application. Follow the path “C:Program Files (x86)SteamsteamappscommonSteamworksShared_CommonRedistDirectX” and run the file dxsetup.exeto automatically install or update the tool to the latest version. You also have the right to follow the link to the developer’s official website and download the current version of the application.
Update your graphics card drivers

Some players have reported that an outdated version of the GPU driver can be the cause of errors and various crashes. Before launching Jagged Alliance 3, check for updates to your video card and also download and install the latest version:
- Nvidia users – Follow this link;
- AMD users – you can download it here.
Disable game overlays on Steam, Discord and other apps
Other gamers have also reported that disabling the Steam and Discord game overlay helps fix the game launch issue. Since such applications always run in the background, they consume a significant amount of system resources. Learn more about how to disable the Steam game overlay in this guide. There you will also see several tests that clearly show how the performance of some games deteriorates when the overlay is enabled.
Disable Antivirus and Windows Firewall

The built-in system defender, like other antivirus programs, is often the reason why gamers cannot run this or that application. Jagged Alliance 3 is no exception. Before you begin, we recommend temporarily disabling security and checking the application’s performance. If you don’t know how to do this, check out this guide.
Follow these steps to disable Windows Firewall:
- Enter the search “Windows Firewall” and click on the icon;
- Select one of the different networks (“Domain Network”, “Private Network” And “Public Network”) and press “Out”;
- Restart your computer to apply the changes and try launching the game.

Jagged Alliance 3 crashes to the desktop without errors – how do I fix it?
If Jagged Alliance 3 crashes to the desktop without errors during gameplay, we recommend that you first check that your PC meets the minimum and recommended system requirements. If the hardware only meets the minimum requirements, follow these steps:
- Open the game and go to “Options”;
- On the tab “Video” to install low configuration.
If the problem persists after that, re-open the graphics options menu section and disable the following options completely:
- anisotropy;
- halos;
- Vignetting;
- Chromatic aberration;
- SSAO;
- reflections;
- Sharpness.

This will reduce the load on your system and, in most cases, save you from constant crashes to the desktop without an error. We recommend experimenting with different settings to find the right balance between performance and image.
Remark: Don’t forget to restart your computer after making any changes or updates.
Error during battle. The opponent’s move is frozen – what to do?
Often, during the battle, gamers encounter an error, when after reaching a certain number of moves, the image on the screen freezes, and the enemies do not perform their actions. This makes it technically impossible to continue the battle.

At the moment, the only way to fix this error is to load one of the saves. It’s also worth noting that if you load to the previous turn, there’s a good chance that the bug will repeat itself again. We recommend loading a previous save, for example before a battle. We have not found any other solutions to this problem. If you have something to add to the guide, write about it in the comments.
Unknown error while saving
This error can also occur during combat when the game tries to make an automatic save. If you get an error, close it and save it manually. If the problem persists, we recommend restarting the game or loading a previously saved file.
Jagged Alliance 3 could not load images – how to fix?
The gaming community has not found the cause of this error, but there are several effective ways to solve it:
- Check the integrity of the game files.
- Lower the graphics settings in the game.
Chimureng bug in Pantagruel – how to fix?
Many gamers reported encountering a bug while trying to interact with a character named Chimurenga, who resides in the main square of Pantagruel. Due to this error, Chimurenga simply disappears and no longer appears at the location. This is not very good, since this character is needed to progress through the main plot.

We have not found a specific reason why the bug occurs, but there are several workable solutions for this problem.
Restart Jagged Alliance 3
First of all, exit the game without saving and start it again. In most cases, this will help get rid of the problem.
Load a previous save
If you have autosave enabled, just select one of the earlier ones and load it. It is worth noting that the cause of the error could have occurred earlier, so this method does not guarantee complete resolution of the problem.
Attack the rebels and defeat Chimureng
Another way to make sure you meet Chimureng is to attack a group of Rebels on one of the preceding spaces. This will lead to you having new enemies, but the character will definitely be waiting for you in the central square of Pantagruel. It is not necessary to destroy him, after defeating the “boss” you can determine his fate – kill him or let him go.
Check the integrity of game files
As we noted earlier, some game files may be corrupted or missing altogether. To do this, it is recommended to check the integrity of the game files in the Steam launcher.
Reinstall Jagged Alliance 3
Reinstalling the game and checking the integrity of game files is intended to resolve all existing issues. Moreover, it does not lead to any loss of stored data.

Start a new game
This is a more drastic way, as you could have gotten quite far into the story, and it’s not a good idea to go through each square repeatedly. However, if the methods described above did not help, this may be the only way out.
