How to bypass Surfshark VPN block – what to do if the virtual network is down

Lately many have been complaining about the unstable connection in Surfshark VPN. But this does not mean that you should opt out or worry that the money cannot be returned. There is another official way to connect, which we will talk about today.

You need an additional OpenVPN app to set up. In simple terms, you have to enter the path manually and connect to the Surfshark VPN servers. This method is suitable for both PCs and smartphones. To connect to a VPN using a manual OpenVPN connection, you’ll need your Surfshark service credentials. Don’t confuse them with your regular username and password you use to connect to Surfshark VPN.

It may seem complicated to you, but in fact the method is quite simple and, most importantly, effective. Below we will detail how to make Surfshark VPN work on all your devices.

Bypass blocking and connect Surfshark VPN on a computer

First, go to the VPN section – manual configuration. If you are not logged in, enter your username and password provided during registration.

You need a tab “References” (as in the screenshot above). Here you can save your username and password for later use.

Switch to tab “Locations” and select any country. This is where you will be redirected when you enable the VPN. Click the button to the right of the name to open the dialog box.

Choose which file to upload: UDP or TCP. These are two different VPN protocols. We recommend UDP because it is usually faster.

Now you should download the OpenVPN application:

Install the application and allow changes to be made to the system. This is required because the OpenVPN app needs permission to manage network and VPN settings. Double-click the OpenVPN shortcut. The application launches in the system tray (the system tray is located in the lower-right corner of the screen).

Further procedure:

1. Click this icon PKM and select the item “Import configuration…”by selecting the previously downloaded file on the tab “Locations”.
2. Open the context menu again and select “Connect”.
3. Enter the Surfshark service credentials you saved earlier. Check the box “To remind”so you don’t have to re-enter them in the future.
4. Once connected, the screen next to the OpenVPN GUI icon will turn green.
5. To disconnect from the network, right-click again and click the entry “Detach”.

If something went wrong or you want to change the country, just select a new location and update the necessary details.

Connect Surfshark VPN on your smartphone

Open the Surfshark website through any browser (you can’t set it up through the app). In the “Manual setting” section, copy the login and password and download the UDP protocol of each country. If the file doesn’t download, use a temporary free VPN or download it from a computer.

Install the OpenVPN app. If you don’t have access to Google Play or can’t find the OpenVPN app in the store, you can download the APK version and install it manually.

Open the installed application. You will be immediately prompted to provide a link to a profile or import a file. Choose a section File and add the previously downloaded file of the country of your choice there.

We didn’t succeed right away, so we decided to go the other way. To do this, we downloaded the file to the computer and sent it through Telegram, after renaming it (you can delete everything superfluous, in a few words). Then they downloaded the file to the phone, after which it was already displayed in the section File. Perhaps the problem is related to the number of periods in the document name and the phone did not see this as the desired format.

Enter the Surfshark service credentials you saved earlier. Check the box “Save Password”to not enter them again in the future, and click the button “ADD” in the top right corner of the screen.

If there is a connection, a window will appear. “Select certificate”just click “Get on”.

To disable the VPN, click the slider again, which has turned green.
