In 2017, Marc Laidlaw published a draft version of the script. Half-Life 2: Episode 3. Nearly six years later, the screenwriter admitted in an interview with Rock, Paper, Shotgun that he deeply regrets what he did.

Laidlaw added that fans should not take the design seriously. According to him, Valve games are often written the same during development, so the final version of Episode 3 would certainly be very different.

I think that “drain” has caused my friends a lot of trouble and made their lives difficult. He also gave the impression that if Episode 3 came out, it would be something like my design, when in fact the real development of the plot can only take place during the development of the game. So people didn’t understand the plot of the third episode at all.
