Key (Master Override), which opens all doors inwards Dead Space can be obtained by finding crew suits – Volker (Voelker), White (White), Holt (Holt), Dallas (Dallas), Russo (Rousseau), Bailey (Bailey), and Benson (Benson). This can be done during the quest “You are not authorized” (You are not Authorized).
Note: There are no Russian subtitles in the game, so the guide contains the original titles with an approximate translation.
This is the highest unlock level in Dead Space, although it’s designed so that you can’t access it until you reach access level 3. Many costumes are locked behind different levels of security or story missions. So you will have to complete most of the game to get everything you need to complete the task. However, once you get the Master Override key, you’ll have access to weapon upgrades and some useful resources.
You can access the mission “You are not Authorized” if you complete the quest “Meet Hammond in the Captain’s Nest”. In the same room you will find a red bridge security console. Interacting with her will start a side quest and give you a list of costumes you can get.
Find them all and return to this console to create the Master Override key. There are seven in total, and many of them you can only access when you open new areas. It’s not so much “where” to find them, but “when”. Please note that you cannot wear any of these costumes, but if you want to improve your own costumes, we have a separate guide for you.
List of costumes
To unlock Master Override you need to find seven crew suits:
- Voelker’s Rig (Volker’s suit);
- First Officer White’s Rig (First Officer White’s suit);
- Lt Commander Holt’s Rig (Lieutenant Holt costume);
- Mining Overseer Dallas’ Rig (Dallas mining overseer’s equipment);
- Rig of Chief Engineer Rousseau (suit of Chief Engineer Rousseau);
- Comms Officer Bailey’s Rig
- Tram Warden Benson’s Lineup (Tram Warden Benson’s Lineup Costume).
Where to find Voelker’s Rig (Volker’s Suit)
The first suit you can find in Dead Space, perhaps even before you get to the console that triggers the side mission. During the Reach the Engineering Deck quest, shortly before you find the Fuel Station key card, you can fly through the hangar in zero gravity and then exit through the force field and space. If you settle on the right side of this area you will eventually see a purple light, pick up an item near the O2 source.
Where to find First Officer White’s Rig
You won’t be able to access the second tier until you’ve calibrated the ADS cannons to fight asteroids. This will give you access to the outer part of the trench. After interacting with and synchronizing all three weapons, complete the task. However, before returning to the ship, fly to the end of the trench and pick up the item on the left.
Where to find Lt. Commander Holt’s Rig (Lt. Holt’s Outfit)
The third item can be found while purging the poisonous gas. When you kill Wheezer 4, you’ll end up in a room with one door blocked by a tentacle. Shoot the glowing button to destroy it and then go through the door.
You’ll end up in a higher area blocked by more tentacles on the left – destroy them all and you’ll find Holt’s armor at the bottom. You need to find the Deck Systems keycard: turn the opposite direction from the switch and you will see a door to the East Seedling Room B. The keycard is on the table to the right. Grab her and leave.
Where to Find Mining Supervisor Dallas’ Rig (Dallas Mining Supervisor Outfit)
You can find the item during the Find the Admin Rig mission. He is located in a small room next to the mining area, where you need to remove anomalies by throwing glowing stones at the energy beam. Your security clearance will also be upgraded to 3, which is another major plot twist not to be missed.
Where to find Chief Engineer Rousseau’s Rig
You can get the item once you find the previous costume and unlock level 3. This will be during the mission where you need to get the SOS beacon (SOS beacon). Go to the technical area, where the walls and floors are covered with growths. The item is in a small locked vault that you’ve probably noticed before, but couldn’t be opened due to the lower access level.
Where can I find Comms Officer Bailey’s Rig
You can access the item by completing the “Fix the Comms Array” mission. The communication door opens, allowing you to enter a part of the ship that you couldn’t reach before. Go to this area and you will find Bailey and his suit in his office.
Where to find Tram Supervisor Benson’s Rig
The last item is available after you exit the Valor shuttle. You will receive a message that someone has opened the door at the bridge atrium. This re-opens access to an area you couldn’t reach before.
This is the way to the tracks where you will find Benson and the suit on the floor. You will also be attacked by a few Necromorphs, so be prepared. Soon after, you come across something strange called the Z-Ball arena.
How to make a master override key
Once you have all the suits, return to the Captain’s Nest where you met Hammond and activated the console to start the mission. The console now gives you the option to create a Master Override. This will allow you to open all doors with the Master Override access level you encountered earlier on Ishimura. Check the cards for locked doors that Master Override can open.
More importantly, you can open yellow boxes. This is especially useful in the late game for extra resources and latest weapon upgrades. There comes a point in the game when you can’t go back and collect all the costumes. So you lose access to everything with a master level lock.
