In a recent update to God of War: Ragnarok added a photo mode. Despite the complete uselessness in gameplay, this feature is invariably very popular among gamers. It’s not just about the beauty of graphics, but also a lot of funny poses and “faces” that can be assigned to the characters. In this guide, we analyze in detail how to start photo mode, what functions it has and where photos are saved.

How to enter photo mode

When you open the game after the update, you may encounter a problem: where is the promised photo mode anyway? There are no symbols in the settings and the touch screen is used for completely different needs. The same applies to the combination “L3 + R3”. She fires Spartan Fury by default, which of course has nothing to do with shots.

The developers approached the problem off the beaten path. To activate the photo mode, you need to press the pause and then “Square”. This decision leads to some inconvenience, since it becomes more difficult to catch the heroes, as they say, “in the moment”, due to the mandatory break. However, the decision is justified, since all active buttons and their combinations are associated with direct actions in the game.

What you can do in photo mode

As soon as you open photo mode, the first thing you can do is move the camera. The left stick is responsible for moving from side to side, closer, further, the right stick allows you to turn, and R2 and L2 – lift up and down. Keep in mind that the camera is locked on Kratos and cannot “fly” too far from him.

In the top left corner are the main sections. There are five in total:

  • Photo mode camera;
  • shoot;
  • Brightness;
  • Vignetting;
  • Character.

Each of them has its own settings that allow you to adjust the image more precisely. “Camera photo mode” is responsible for viewing angles, focal length, camera tilt. “Shoot” allows you to adjust depth of field, focus distance, and exposure compensation. “Brightness” is responsible for the grainy effect, shutter speed, and filters. By the way, there are quite a few:

  • Atreus;
  • Black and white;
  • cold tones;
  • cross process;
  • crates;
  • Sepia;
  • Bright colors;
  • warm tones;
  • Sunset;
  • Retro;
  • Pastel;
  • Silhouette.

For each of the filters, you can adjust the intensity, brightness, and saturation.

The next part is Vignetting. No surprises here – darken the edges. The only thing I would note is the ability to set frames and the game’s logo. It’s so easy to get a passport photo of Kratos.

The last part is “Character”. Here you can hide the war god himself, his companions or other characters. Also, facial expressions of Kratos and the satellite are selected here. Not all heroes can be “edited”. So far only the main ones are available: Kratos, Atreus, Freya, Brock, Sindri, Angrboda, Thor and Trud. Unfortunately, Mimir’s expression cannot be changed. At the same time, Kratos has as many as 28 “faces”, while the rest have only 10.

In general, the photo modification turned out to be quite good, but there are not so many interesting chips. For example, the choice of poses is very lacking, as you can only catch really cool options in cutscenes and combat. It is hoped that the developers will further expand the toolkit, but so far there is no information about this.

Where are photos stored

You will soon notice that there is no separate button to save the captured photo. To do this, just hide the interface and press the button on the gamepad to take screenshots. To view your work, open Settings, Storage, Console Storage, Media Gallery on your console. From here, images can be downloaded to a USB stick, deleted or shared with friends.
