Where to find and how to get eggs
First of all, you need to install the Mistland update. If you haven’t already, read our separate guide.
For breeding chickens you need Eggs – this is one of the few resources that players cannot get in the open world. You can buy eggs from the merchant Haldor, who appears anywhere on the map. Usually it is located on the starting or nearby islands, but also not far from the water. Other than that, Haldor can only be found in black Forest – Do not seek merchant in other biomes. You can only start raising chickens after defeating the boss Yaglut. This is the boss of the fifth story, which differs from other enemies in massive damage. In this guide, we showed you how to destroy it.
When you have fulfilled the requirement, go back to the merchant and communicate with him. The Haldor range is supplemented with a new product – eggs. For each item you have to pay 1500 gold.
To breed chickens, you need to buy at least two eggs. Therefore, players will have to collect first 3000 coins.
How to collect coins fast
There are several ways to earn coins in Valheim. We have already described detailed instructions here.
- Explore abandoned buildings and gnome settlements, inspect chests and find coins;
- Visit dungeons. It is not unusual to find coins and gems in burial chambers;
- Collect gems and sell them to the merchant;
- Defeat the third floor boss – Mass of Bones and get the brace. This item allows you to find buried treasure and sell it to Haldor.
Console commands
If you don’t want to waste time, you can use the console commands. First you need to activate the console in the game. For this:
- Open the Steam Game Library and search for Valheim.
- Click on a game in the list PKM and press “Properties”.
- Go to “General”then click “Start parameters” and enter the command “-to console” without quotes.
Now start the game and press the key “F5”. A console will open with which you need to activate the cheat mode. Enter “develop commands” without quotes and click Enter.
Enter the command to add money spawn coins without quotes and the required number of coins.
Remark: we do not recommend creating a large amount of money at once as it may lead to game instability or even crashes. We advise you to add 200-300 coins.
How to raise chickens
Now that you have collected two eggs, go back to your camp and build a small paddock. If you have free rooms in your house, you can use them to raise chickens.
If you drop an egg on the floor, you notice that nothing happens. The fact is that the eggs under the roof must be kept warm. Place a regular fire next to it and build a roof. Hover over an egg to see its state:
- Cold (too cold) – the egg is not hot enough. Place a bonfire nearby;
- Hot – the egg is warm and soon the chick will hatch.
If all conditions are met, the chicks hatch in about one and a half game days. Make sure that the fire does not go out, otherwise the steps will have to be repeated again.
Some chickens to feed
Chicks themselves do not need food, but adults need constant feeding. Use some types of seeds for food:
If the tamed birds have enough food, you will see the inscription when you hover over it with the mouse “Rejoices”. When food is scarce, it is indicated here “Hungry”.
Add food to the pen in a timely manner, otherwise adults will die after a while.
What resources can be obtained
Chickens in Valheim are needed to extract three resources: Eggs, Chicken and Feathers. Domesticated chickens can be slaughtered with a butcher knife. You cannot kill tamed animals with other weapons. The recipe for this item appears after you smell Tin Bars for the first time. To make a knife you will need the following resources:
- Wood (2);
- Can (4).
Feathers are useful for making one arrowsand meat and eggs for cooking food. Below we have prepared a detailed list of dishes.
