Russian voice actor Vsevolod Kuznetsov, voice of Brad Pitt, Keanu Reeves and Geralt from The Witcher 3, came to visit the TosiBosi podcast. During the trial, Kuznetsov spoke about the nuances of working on the Wild Hunt.

As you may recall, the Russian version of The Witcher 3 had one major drawback: many sentences didn’t fit in the timing, so they had to be artificially sped up or slowed down. According to Kuznetsov, this is not the fault of the translators, but of the CDPR itself, which did not specify the speed at which the comments should be read.

This is a mistake by Polish manufacturers, as far as we were told. Because when the game is released, the rules come and they have different statuses. One of the states is strict timing, when you have to hit every break. There’s a non-strict timing, there’s a kind of assumption. That is, you can [отступать от оригинальной длины озвучки] in percentage there are 10%, 15%.

There is free timing if you don’t care, as the person in the original said. And just like that, the replicas in The Witcher had free timing. And we played it the way we wanted. English is a broader language, we worked according to the English, not the Polish version. They did it as free timing, and when it came time to release the game, it turned out there were replicas with free timing, but that proved difficult. And they didn’t have time to fix it. Accordingly, they either accelerated them, or vice versa, stretched them, which is also ugly.

The hosts also mentioned voice acting Cyberpunk 2077, which, according to players’ impressions, contained many more swear words than in the original. Kuznetsov noted that in The Witcher he also had to improvise somewhere.

Something in The Witcher was born along the way. Here’s a phrase everyone quotes me: “You, *****, will never learn.” It was just, “There’s no way you can learn it.” Apparently there was still a need for subtext, the subtext came out. Of course there was a sentence included and without mate.
