Tourist police on the Thai island of Koh Phangan have rescued two tourists who were lost in the jungle after calling emergency services. This has been reported bangok post.

Tourists, a man from Spain and a woman from Belarus, called the helpline on Tuesday evening, July 9th. They reported that they were hiking on a mountain near the village of Moo and could not find their way back.

Tourist police, together with local rescuers, conducted a search operation, and two and a half hours later, 25-year-old Jaime Nunez and 22-year-old Daria Pankova were successfully found – tired but unharmed.

The travelers were fed, watered and taken to the village of Moo, where they lived.

Bangkok Post readers were surprised that tourists were able to call rescuers from their smartphones, but did not use the GPS system installed on the phone. Some accused travelers of stupidity.

“Did they have a working phone with connectivity but no GPS? It’s questionable,” wrote one reader in the comments. To which the other replied: “Nothing suspicious. This is a common situation where the phone is smarter than the person using it.
