ePizza franchise operator Domino’s filed for bankruptcy in April after being unable to sell pizza in the wake of the pandemic. The relevant document was submitted to the Milan court.
Domino’s closed in Italy on July 20, after seven years of operation in the country. The pizza chain failed due to competition from food delivery apps and Italians’ love of homemade pizza.
The court filing says Domino’s had high hopes when it entered the Italian market in 2015 by signing a 10-year franchise agreement with ePizza. The company was planning to launch a large-scale pizza delivery service in the country, which did not yet exist at the time. By early 2020, ePizza was operating 23 Domino locations in Italy and six more locations through a partner.
