What is eyebrow lamination

Eyebrow lamination is a popular, innovative procedure that helps to tidy and properly shape even the most capricious eyebrows using special chemical compounds.

Essentially, lamination is a temporary chemical perm that makes eyebrow hairs more mobile, more manageable, and guides them in the right direction. Permanent make-up specialist Evgenia Povar told socialbites.ca that this procedure takes place in several stages.

During lamination, the master analyzes the structural features of the client’s face and selects the most suitable eyebrow shape.

Indications for eyebrow lamination

Cosmetologists recommend laminating eyebrows in the following cases:

  • Hair grows in different directions;
  • There are small spaces between the feathers;
  • You have coarse eyebrow hairs;
  • You need to hide a bad tattoo;
  • Eyebrows do not satisfy you with their width or shape;
  • Are you tired of styling and fixing your thick, unruly hair with gel every morning?
  • You want to place special emphasis on your eyebrows.

In an interview with socialbites.ca, beautician-esthetician Irina Rusina noted that among the indications for the procedure are thin, narrow eyebrows.

“We expand thin eyebrows and correct those that do not follow the right direction using various compounds,” the beautician explained.

Thanks to the procedure, the appearance of the eyebrows is significantly improved. The shape of the eyebrows is selected based on the features of the girl’s face and type of appearance.

Thanks to the procedure, the eyebrow arches become symmetrical. At the end of lamination, the master applies fixing serum. Eyebrows acquire a neat, well-groomed appearance and retain their shape well.

Rusina adds that eyebrows will be tinted if necessary.

“But this only needs to be done with paint. “You cannot change the color of the eyebrows using henna during lamination,” emphasized the beautician.

The cost of eyebrow lamination varies in salons from 1300 to 5000 rubles. The effect lasts for one and a half to two months.

How to prepare for eyebrow lamination

There is no need for special preparation for the eyebrow lamination process. However, cosmetologists recommend taking into account several nuances:

  • If you use special creams with retinoids to combat acne, wrinkles and other skin imperfections, stop using them for a few days. This will help prevent skin irritation in the eyebrow area after the procedure;
  • Take a break from tinting your eyebrows for three weeks before the procedure;
  • By applying special shaping wax to your eyebrows a few days before the procedure, you can ensure that the strongly growing hairs take shape.

How is eyebrow lamination done?

The eyebrow lamination process takes about an hour and occurs in several stages:

  1. The master removes the make-up, degreases the eyebrows, evaluates them and finds out from the client what shape he would like to see.
  2. The specialist lifts the eyebrows and carefully applies a special straightening solution to them. As a rule, most brands have a similar solution composition and contain thioglycolic acid.
  3. The eyebrows on which the product is applied are fixed with a film: this is necessary to prevent contact with air. At this stage, the hair follicles open, the eyebrows become straight and obedient.
  4. After about 15 minutes, the master removes the first composition from the eyebrows and applies the second, whose task is to fix the hairs in the desired direction.
  5. If eyebrows need to be tinted, the artist applies the dye.
  6. After the dye is removed, the specialist applies the final composition, covering the hair scales. The remnants of all previous products are carefully removed with a brush.

Contraindications and adverse reactions

Although the eyebrow lamination process is considered safe, precautions must be taken during its application and contraindications regarding the client’s health condition must be taken into account.

Contraindications to eyebrow lamination:

  • Eye diseases, especially conjunctivitis;
  • Mechanical damage to the skin;
  • Recent acute respiratory viral infections;
  • Allergic reactions;
  • Pregnancy and breastfeeding period.

Dermatologist, Doctor of Medical Sciences, Professor of the Department of Dermatovenereology, Mycology and Cosmetology of the Russian Academy of Medical Postgraduate Education Yulia Gallyamova told socialbites.ca that, in general, the eyebrow lamination procedure is safe. But there are nuances that need to be taken into account.

“Lamination affects the structure of the regrowth part of the eyebrows, that is, the hair. And the effect is negative. Therefore, over time, after lamination, girls notice that their hair breaks and becomes shorter,” said Galliamova.

The dermatologist also reminded that eyebrow lamination, like any cosmetic procedure, can cause allergic reactions to the ingredients. And this is difficult to predict.

“Individual intolerance to any substance is possible. If we talk about specific diseases such as psoriasis, atopic dermatitis, seborrhea, it is better not to laminate eyebrows during the period of exacerbation of the disease,” the dermatologist advised.

Gallyamova emphasized that in any particular case, individual intolerance to the components may play a role. To exclude unwanted reactions, the dermatologist recommends a preliminary test.

It is also not recommended to laminate your eyebrows if you had a facial peel less than two weeks ago. It is worth postponing the procedure even after returning from hot countries: the skin has already been exposed to stress after sunbathing. Give him some rest.

Eyebrow lamination at home

Today, many people are trying eyebrow lamination at home. However, experts recommend that this process be done under the supervision of professionals. This will help prevent unwanted reactions.

Note that the lamination process uses chemical solutions and these must be applied near the eyes. Any careless movement can lead to unpleasant consequences for the organs of vision.
