‘Blue Star’ is not what is understood as a musical ‘biopic’. Its protagonist is a real character, Mauricio Aznar, singer and leader of the Zaragoza rock band Más Birras, active from 1985 to 1993, but this is not the history of the band, but the lives of its members, tours, performances, drugs and crashes among its members. The film begins with Mauricio entering a crisis with the band, his girlfriend, the public and the record industry at large, and although it may not seem like it, he decides to break away from everything and heads deep into Argentina. I follow in the footsteps of Atahualpa Yupanqui and the traditional music of these regions.
This so it’s closer to a ‘road movie’ Where the hero gradually finds himself again through his travels and encounters with a wide variety of people. The film captures this musical, emotional and cultural learning well, distilling considerable irony and playing with documentary elements itself (the re-creation of the casting tests and the team’s trip to re-film the participants). It deviates from the ‘biopic’ (which it was) about a rock star with a tragic end, and most importantly, there is no need to know Más Birras and his singer to enjoy the film.
