The dentist explained that in the debate about when it is better to brush your teeth (before or after breakfast), there is still no single recommendation, since both options have their pros and cons.
“If we get up, brush our teeth, and immediately go to breakfast, our teeth become ‘bare’ and more sensitive to acids from food,” Mandrik said.
He explained that fruits contain most of the acids, and fluoride pastes will help prevent the destruction of tooth enamel by creating an acid-resistant protective film on the tooth surface.
According to the expert, the option of brushing teeth after breakfast also has its disadvantages.
“If we brush our teeth immediately after breakfast, the acidity in the mouth increases, so if we pick up the brush immediately, there is a high risk of damaging tooth enamel. If you like hard brushes, abrasive pastes and use the wrong method of brushing your teeth, increased sensitivity and wear of tooth enamel are guaranteed,” warned Mandrik.
The dentist said you should wait 20-30 minutes to minimize the effect of the acids.
“During this period, there is an active secretion of saliva, which transforms the acidic environment into a neutral one (of course, if it is not too viscous and is released in sufficient quantities),” he explained.
The expert waited half an hour after breakfast and called on citizens not to forget to brush their teeth.
“It is important to me that you clean them up; Before or after depends on the nuances. Sometimes I brush my teeth before breakfast and then clean between my teeth with an irrigator. But most of the time I do it after breakfast and a walk with the dog, just 30 minutes later,” the dentist shared his experience.
