There are several important criteria to distinguish a good filler from a bad one – for example, in case of use of low-quality material or improper installation by a specialist. Luiza Avtandilyan, Russian dentist and founder of the Smilestudio clinic, told socialbites.ca.
“A good filling must be made of quality materials with high strength and durability. “Such materials include light-cured composites, glass ionomers and ceramic fillers,” the expert began.
He underlined that bad fillings quickly lose their color and shape and do not adhere well to tooth tissue.
“A good filling usually does not stand out against the background of the tooth – it should be invisible and have a natural shade. “Correctly applied filling preserves the anatomical shape of the tooth with all its cracks and bumps,” the doctor emphasized.
He also included correctly shaped contact points as the main differences of a quality filling. A good filling should have a smooth surface, not be felt in the mouth, fit well into the bite, and not obstruct the closure of the upper and lower row teeth.
“The most important sign by which you can distinguish a good filling from a bad one is the absence of pain or discomfort after the filling,” concluded Louise Avtandilyan.
