Jewelry made from alloys can cause allergies, so people with sensitive skin should only wear jewelry made of gold, silver, platinum, titanium and surgical steel. Elena Rakutina, jeweler and jewelry fashion expert at SOKOLOV holding, told socialbites.ca.

“There are times when even a small earring or your favorite ring causes an unpleasant reaction on the skin. Rakutina said that allergy to metals can appear immediately or after a while, mostly in the form of redness or swelling.

According to the expert, the allergic reaction is caused by cobalt, nickel, chromium, lead, copper and other elements that give the alloy additional physical properties such as hardness, ductility and color.

“People with sensitive skin should choose jewelry made of 18 carat gold, platinum and titanium. Accessories made of sterling silver (925) and surgical steel are also considered harmless; these are often used as the first jewelry for piercings,” the jeweler explained.

He added that dirt on jewelry can also cause a skin reaction.

“Jewelry, just like its owners, needs to undergo periodic beauty treatments. It is best to wipe it down once a month with a special cleaner or take it to a professional for professional cleaning. Then the decoration will not only create unpleasant inconveniences, but will also last much longer,” said Rakutina.

Former Finance Expert warned About fake discounts on Black Friday.
