A constant feeling of weakness and fatigue may indicate some diseases. Olesya Savelyeva, senior therapist at Meditsina JSC (clinic of academician Roitberg), told socialbites.ca about this.
According to the therapist, one of the causes of fatigue may be iron deficiency anemia.
“Iron deficiency in the body can lead to low hemoglobin levels, which causes fatigue and weakness. If you have these symptoms, along with decreased appetite, pale skin and nails, consult a doctor for diagnosis and treatment,” Savelyeva warned.
These conditions may also indicate hypothyroidism, a condition in which the thyroid gland does not produce enough hormones needed to control the body’s metabolism and energy.
“Symptoms of hypothyroidism include constant fatigue, lethargy, apathy, listlessness, and slowed thought processes. If you notice these symptoms, contact your doctor to check your thyroid hormone levels,” the therapist said.
Another clinical disease that manifests itself with fatigue is chronic fatigue syndrome.
“This is a condition characterized by long-term extreme fatigue that is not relieved by rest or sleep. Patients with CFS may also experience weakness, lack of concentration, and muscle and joint pain. This syndrome requires complex diagnosis and treatment management, and a specialist should be consulted to make the correct diagnosis.” Stating that it is necessary, the doctor said:
Finally, weakness can also indicate depression.
“Depression is a mental illness that can manifest itself with physical symptoms such as constant fatigue, weakness and low energy. Savelyeva explained that patients with depression may also experience sleep disturbances, changes in appetite, feelings of helplessness and decreased mood.
He added that feeling tired all the time also indicates diabetes, cardiovascular diseases, chronic kidney failure, autoimmune diseases, infections and even some types of cancer. But these symptoms can potentially be a result of chronic sleep apnea, lack of physical activity, side effects of medications, stress, and nutritional deficiencies.
