Natalya Egorenkova, nutritionist, member of the Russian Association of Scientific Medical Therapists and head of the medical department of the Revital Park sanatorium, told socialbites.ca about the diets that are least harmful to the body.

“I would like to emphasize that the Mediterranean diet is the most balanced diet in terms of nutritional values. Most of the time, cardiologists, nutritionists and endocrinologists recommend sticking with it,” noted the nutritionist.

Among other diets that are least harmful to the body, Egorenkova named flexitarism (a predominantly plant-based diet that allows the consumption of animal meat as food).

“You may also consider the DASH diet, which is designed to help maintain normal blood pressure levels, and the GAPS diet, which aims to improve intestinal flora. The former limits salt intake, while the latter contains the maximum amount of dietary fiber (vegetables and fruits),” the doctor added.

As for the keto diet, Egorenkova recommended following it only under the supervision of a doctor.

“The most correct nutrition is the one characterized by moderate consumption of fats, simple carbohydrates and sufficient amounts of protein. “And if we talk about a more or less ideal formula for proper nutrition, then we can consider a combination of the Mediterranean and DASH diet,” he concluded.
