Many fans of the original 1986 movie dreamed of the premiere of Top Gun: Maverick. They barely include journalist Matt Patches, who tweeted in 2010 promising to eat his shoe if the sequel ever sees the light of day. It’s time to keep the promise!

Patches captured the process of eating a boat in a 20-minute video. For 12 years, the fateful tweet managed to become a meme, and the journalist got married and had two children. His wife forbade him to eat real shoes, so Patches had to make an edible version of them. Fruit puree, special glue and patterns were used to cut out details.

Finally, the journalist ate the shoes after breaking into them on the street. Interestingly enough, Patches could have just eaten the boat cake that Paramount Pictures sent him in honor of the film’s premiere, but decided to take the harder road. He certainly does not want to repeat such an experience again.

I’m still skeptical about the release of “Top Gun 3”, even with the success of the second part – it’s impossible. But when that happens, I don’t eat anything. I hope this video is a reminder that we can all make mistakes online and admit mistakes. And also about the fact that you can always play the fool on the internet.
